The free screening of the documentary "How to Poison a Planet" is a special event taking place on the eve of the opening of the 2025 Meetings of the Conference of the Parties of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, to be held in Geneva from 28 April to 9 May 2025.
About the Film
How to Poison a Planet uses sworn testimony and internal documents to expose what chemical companies knew about ‘forever chemical’ toxicity and widespread contamination by the late 1970s, long before they alerted authorities to the dangers of the chemicals they produced and sold. Through the stories of two distant but similarly affected communities, the film highlights the global scale and consequences of polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) pollution.
The documentary premiered in New York on 27 February 2025.

About the Event
The free screening of the documentary « How to Poison a Planet » is a special event taking place on the eve of the opening of the 2025 Meetings of the Conference of the Parties of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, to be held in Geneva from 28 April to 9 May 2025. The screening will be preceded by a short panel discussion presenting the documentary.
The documentary also features Robert Bilott, an environmental lawyer from the United States, who received the international Right Livelihood Award, known as the « Alternative Nobel Prize », for his decades of work on PFAS contamination. With a combination of innovative litigation, scientific understanding, and perseverance, Robert Bilott has achieved a significant victory for environmental law and corporate accountability.

2025 Meetings of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions
The seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention (BC COP-17), the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Rotterdam Convention (RC COP-12) and the twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Stockholm Convention (SC COP-12) will be held back-to-back in Geneva from 28 April to 9 May 2025. Side events to the 2025 meetings of the BRS COPs will serve as a platform for Parties and observers to share knowledge, build capacity, network and exchange on experience in the implementation of the BRS conventions. They also contribute to fostering discussions on specific issues under consideration at the COPs.
