World Food Day is celebrated every year on 16 October. We all have a role to play to realize the vision of a world without hunger and malnutrition. We must not let sustainable habits fall by the wayside in times of crisis. We can make healthy food choices and do our part to reduce food waste. In addition, governments, enterprises, and organizations can share their knowledge and support sustainable, resilient food systems and livelihoods. Together, we can grow, nourish, and sustain our world.

2025 Theme : FAO’s 80th Anniversary

In 2024, World Food Day launched 365 days of action to FAO’s 80th anniversary – a call for stakeholders to write the next chapter of FAO’s journey together. The 80 year anniversary of FAO will be celebrated on World Food Day 2025 on October 16.  #FAO80

This milestone highlights the collective power of cooperation and teamwork as the foundation for addressing global food challenges. The anniversary underscores the importance of daily actions and their cumulative impact in building a better future.

FAO’s journey over eight decades reflects its commitment to innovation and resilience in the face of the world’s toughest challenges affecting food systems and global well-being. The organization has consistently placed healthy diets and sustainable food systems at the center of the global agenda, supported by a vast network of Members, partners, and the general public.

The year-long celebration, between the 2024 and the 2025 editions of WFD, calls for accelerating progress toward better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life for all, ensuring no one is left behind. These 365 days present an opportunity to amplify efforts and inspire transformative action for a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food future.

Food Systems and the Environment

The way we produce and consumer food is deeply connected to our environment. While food is of course at the center of SDG2 – Zero Hunger, it is also an important component to achieve all Sustainable Development Goals. Transforming our food systems is essential to address the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution that we are facing today.

World Food Forum 2025

The World Food Forum (WFF), launched in 2021 as an independent network of partners hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), serves as the premier global platform to actively shape agrifood systems for a better food future, accelerating the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through youth action, science and innovation, and investment, the WFF forges new paths of action and multi-sector partnerships for agrifood impact at the local, regional and global levels to achieve a more sustainable, resilient, inclusive and hunger-free future for all.

WFF annual flagship event will be held from 10 to 17 October at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy, and online. It will bring together world experts, impassioned changemakers and visionary leaders of all ages around the theme: « Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future. » — a tribute to FAO’s 80th anniversary. At the heart of this narrative are the Four Betters: Better Production, Better Nutrition, a Better Environment, and a Better Life. These pillars form the constellation that guides every initiative, every conversation, and every commitment made during World Food Week. A major highlight will be the inauguration of the FAO Food and Agriculture Museum & Network (MuNe) on 16 October 2025. This new initiative embodies the vision of the Four Betters and is firmly rooted in FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022–31, offering a dynamic platform to celebrate and advance global progress toward sustainable agri-food systems.
