Global Citizen is an advocacy platform dedicated to achieving the end of extreme poverty, powered by a community of millions of Global Citizens who believe in one world, one people - where everyone has an equal chance to thrive.

Global Citizen is the world’s leading international advocacy organisation on a mission to end extreme poverty NOW. Powered by a worldwide community of everyday advocates raising their voices and taking action, the movement is amplified by campaigns and events that convene leaders in music, entertainment, public policy, media, philanthropy and the corporate sector. Since the movement began, $49 billion in commitments announced on Global Citizen platforms has been deployed, impacting 1.3 billion lives. Established in Australia in 2008, Global Citizen’s team operates from New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Berlin, Melbourne, Toronto, Johannesburg, Lagos and beyond, while its Geneva branch was established in June 2023.

Through its Defend The Planet pillar, Global Citizen has been focusing on the following campaigns and impact over the last few years including Global Citizen Live, which in September 2021,  held a 24‑hour global broadcast uniting artists, world leaders, and activists to demand climate action ahead of COP 26. The campaign generated remarkable pledges: over US $1.1 billion in climate and humanitarian aid, 157 million trees (including a commitment to plant 77 million by 2022), and more than 60 million COVID-19 vaccines distributed. These figures reflect the scale at which Defend the Planet efforts operate when integrated into high-profile broadcasts and advocacy. Highly engaged in the protection of the planet, the Global Citizen Festival 2024, held in Central Park, New York, USA, Global Citizens took a record 3.4 million actions across themes including “Defend the Planet.” These actions catalyzed major financial commitments: wealthy nations like the UK, Denmark, and Spain backed the World Bank IDA’s $120 billion funding target; Brazil and Colombia pledged to preserve oceans, forests, and biodiversity. Onstage, ecological messaging emphasized the Fossil Fuel Non‑Proliferation Treaty, Race to Zero, and Indigenous‑led conservation.

Global Citizen’s ongoing (as of mid‑2025) flagship environmental campaigns include “Protect the Amazon”, a year‑long effort to end deforestation, accelerate a just energy transition, and support frontline communities—marked as their largest “Defend the Planet” initiative. Concurrently, the “Power Our Planet” campaign continues as a global, year‑long call for climate action and protection for vulnerable communities.

Moreover, the upcoming Global Citizen Festival 2025, scheduled for September 27 in New York City’s Central Park, will publicly advocate for clean energy across Africa (targeting access for 1 million people), Amazon conservation via $200 million mobilized, and $30 million to boost children’s literacy through community education programs.
