A healthy environment, with a thriving biodiversity and in ecological equilibrium, is integral to social and ecological resilience, including the resilience of ecosystem functions and the services that they sustain. As environmental degradation further increases, the equilibrium of ecosystems can be compromised, potentially creating new opportunities for disease emergence and poor health both in humans, plants and animals.
