15 Feb 2024
14:00 – 15:00
Venue: Online | Zoom
Organization: Global Cities Hub - Geneva, ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability
This short event will emphasize the role to be played by LRGs in the negotiation of this new treaty, and the necessity to refer to LRGs in the text itself. Further, the GCH will introduce the idea of a soft coalition on LRGs which should mobilize and engage LRGs during the negotiation process and beyond.
About this Event
With ongoing negotiations to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, the Global Cities Hub is gearing up for the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4) in Ottawa, from 22 to 29 April. The latest draft of the plastic pollution treaty introduces, for the first time, the notions of action and importance of all levels of governments. We are glad to see that our tireless efforts and those of our partners to acknowledge the importance of local and regional governments (LRGs) in the negotiation process have finally borne fruits.
